The Matan Bat Mitzvah Program: "Jewish Women Through The Ages"
In 1995, Oshra Koren, one of the first graduates of the Matan Scholars Program and presently the head of Matan HaSharon, saw a need to add content and meaning to the Bat Mitzvah experience.  From this need was born the Matan Bat Mitzvah program.  Today, over 5,000 mothers and daughters have participated in this innovative program in over 100 communities in Israel and abroad. From the girls learning in the Stuart and  Avis Perlman Bat Mitzvah Program in Jerusalem to those on the other side of the world learning in Toronto, Florida or in the Matan Bat Mitzvah Program in honor of Irving and Pauline Leistner under the auspices of ATT and Kollel Torah MiTzion in Chicago, we are finding that this becomes a special time when mothers can direct their time and attention to their Bat Mitzvah daughter, enabling mothers and daughters to open up new channels of communication.   Mothers who may not have participated in Jewish learning for years have the opportunity to reconnect with Jewish sources and see the excitement of learning through their daughter’s eyes.
