The Matan Bible and Exegesis Advanced Scholars Program
The Joan and Shael Bellows Masters Program in Bible and Biblical Education
The Matan Masters Program in Bible combines two years of study at Matan with a Masters Degree in Bible, in cooperation with Bar Ilan University's Department of Bible. Teachers guide the students though traditional Beit Midrash study coupled with intensive academic research. Students develop breadth as well as depth in their mastery of Biblical texts. The program provides both scholarly research skills as well as a familiarity with all major categories of the Bible, Ancient, Medieval and Modern exegesis, historical geography, Semitic languages and Ancient Near Eastern texts. All classes are conducted in Hebrew.
Matan's Advanced Bible Program was developed to create a cadre of accomplished women scholars trained in the highest levels of Bible and Bible exegesis. Students in the Bible program undertake an intensive two-year full-time program that offers rigorous academic study within a spiritual community. Graduates of the program teach in leading high schools, institutes of higher learning and community programs both in Israel and abroad.
The Bible program was established in partnership with the Joan and Shael Bellows Foundation.
The program is designed for women who have an academic degree and an extensive background in Bible studies. Participating scholars have the ability and diligence to focus on deep and serious study. Preference will be given to candidates who plan on working in education, community leadership and spiritual activities.
Suitable applicants will be invited to a personal interview and oral exam. Acceptance letters will be sent to applicants in the mail together with a form for the students to declare their commitment and abide by the programs conditions.
Application forms are available at the Matan office or online
