Track #1 | The Matan Summer Experience
The Twelve Tribes | From Ancient Roots to Modern Israel
July 14 – August 1 | 8.45 am – 1.00 pm

Join Matan’s distinguished faculty and guest scholars in examining the Shivtei Yisrael, from the personalities of the sons of Jacob through their development into tribes. What is the contemporary relevance to understanding the tribal orientation of our nation? Our three week program is carefully curated to present varied approaches to that question, drawing on expertise in areas such as biblical analysis, philosophical inquiry, halakhic issues and Land of Israel studies. Each week culminates in a day tour around Israel to explore the nachalot, and encounter some of the key sites within the ancestral territories allotted each tribe.

Week 1: The Southern and Transjordan Tribes: Sons of Leah (Reuben, Gad, Simeon, Levi, Judah)
Week 2: The Central Tribes: Sons of Rachel (Ephraim, Manasseh, Dan, Benjamin)
Week 3: The Northern Tribes: Sons of Leah, Zilpah and Bilhah (Issachar, Zebulun, Asher, Naphtali)
